Choices for People Center, in conjunction with their Open House, hosted the April Rolla High School’s Parents Meeting of special needs students. Teacher, Katie Haslag, along with students and parents toured the facility and met with staff to ask questions about the programs. Everyone enjoyed snacks and treats along with coffee and iced tea.
Choices is an unique facility; offering more than one program to assist individuals with disabilities. It is difficult for any parent to see their children away from home; it is especially difficult for parents with disabled students. There must be accommodations in place to ensure the safety, comfort and health of these students while they are away from the home or school environment. The Open House allowed families to meet and visit with the people who care for their loved ones and see where they spend their days. The Adult Day Care Program serves students as young as 18 and gives respite to the families, but to the participant, it offers time to be social, continued learning, and to enjoy each day to the fullest. There are friends to be made, places to visit and a measure of independence that could not be possible while at home.
Parents, grandparents and caregivers of Phelps, Pulaski and Maries Counties interested in the Adult Day Program are advised to contact the office in Rolla for more information. Openings for new students are limited at both the Rolla and Waynesville facilities and spaces are filling fast. The following are basic requirements for attending and if your loved one is interested in the program, you can call 573-364-7444. This program is funded through Medicaid or self pay.
*Age 18 years of age or older *Have sincere interest in attending
*Can self-feed *Can self-toilet
*Individuals with personal aides are also encouraged to call for possible attendance
